Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Vis, also known as the Vis Mod.35 or the (P.35 by the Germans), is a semi-automatic pistol that originated in Poland. It was chambered in 9×19mm cartridge and operates on a single-action mechanism. The pistol's design was influenced by the Colt 1911 pistol Designed by American John Moses Browning.

In late 1935, production began at the state armory Fabryka Broni in Radom for a new weapon that would later become the standard for Polish infantry and cavalry officers. By mid-1938, it was also introduced to armored and air forces. The plan was to equip all units with this weapon and withdraw all other handguns from service by 1942. Before the invasion of Poland, the army received approximately 49,400 out of the 90,000 ordered.

After the Polish defeat in 1939, the Germans took over the Radom Armory and continued production of the weapon under the new name of 9 mm Pistole 645(p), often referred to as P 35(p) (with "p" meaning "polnisch" or "Polish"). The German pistols of the first series had inscriptions VIS Mod.35 and P.35(p) on the left side. Between 312,000 and 380,000 were produced and used by German paratroopers and military police until 1945. Today, the Vis is highly coveted by firearm collectors.
