The FN M249S is a civilian version of the famous FN M249 light machine gun used by military personnel worldwide. The rifle is a semi-automatic firearm that retains many of the features of its military-grade counterpart while being legal for civilian ownership. The FN M249S is a semi-automatic rifle designed to look and feel like the military-grade FN M249. It measures 40.75 inches in length and weighs just over 16 pounds, making it relatively compact and portable. Similar to the military version, the rifle is fed by a belt of linked ammunition and is chambered in 5.56x45mm NATO ammunition.
The FN M249S features an adjustable front and rear sight, making it easy to aim and hit targets accurately. The rifle also has a quick-changeable barrel that makes it easy to switch out damaged or overheated barrels for a fresh one. The collapsible stock is adjustable, allowing for easy storage and transportation of the rifle. The M249 is available in two different versions: the standard version and the Para version. While both models have many similarities, they also have some key differences.
The most noticeable difference between the standard and Para versions of the M249 is the barrel length. The standard version has an 18.5-inch barrel, while the Para version has a shorter 16.1-inch barrel. The shorter barrel on the Para version makes it more compact and easier to maneuver in tight spaces, which is why it’s often favored by special forces and other units that require a highly mobile weapon. Another difference between the two versions is weight. The Para version is lighter than the standard version, weighing in at approximately 16 pounds compared to the standard version’s weight of 17.2 pounds.
