Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
In 1871, Sullivan Forehand and Henry C. Wadsworth established a company that produced revolvers. Interestingly, both men had a connection through their father-in-law, the renowned gun maker Ethan Allen, who passed away the same year. Many of the gunsmiths mentored by Allen went on to start their own businesses.
Despite producing their 1873 Army Model Revolver in .44 Russian in 1873, the company was unable to compete with established market leaders, Colt and Remington, who had already secured most of the Government and State Contracts. As a result, the company mainly catered to the consumer market, where pocket pistols were in high demand.
The Forehand & Wadsworth Sidehammer revolver was a single action gun manufactured for the consumer market in the 1870s, with only about 1000 produced, making them rare and sought after among collectors. This Sidehammer revolver features a nickel finish, 7-shot cylinder and ivory grips.
