This Remington Model 742 Woodsmaster is a right hand semi-auto rifle in .30-06 Springfield. It can use the standard 4-round straight magazine, a less common 10-round magazine, and a very rare 20-round magazine. Following loosely upon the designs of the 870, the 742 more closely resembles the 1100 for it's semi-automatic action. In fact, the mechanism is the same. In 1981, the 742 was replaced by the Model 7400, and later the 750, though the 742 was still widely used and favored by hunters nationwide.
