The Harrington & Richardson Model 1873 is a reproduction single-shot trapdoor-style rifle inspired by the famous U.S. Springfield Model 1873 military rifle, combining historic black powder military styling with modern manufacturing techniques for collectors, shooters, and historical firearms enthusiasts. Manufactured by Harrington & Richardson during the 1970s and 1980s, the rifle closely replicated the appearance and operation of the original Springfield “Trapdoor” rifle used by the United States military during the Indian Wars and late frontier era. Chambered primarily in .45-70 Government, the rifle utilized the classic hinged breechblock “trapdoor” action in which the rear portion of the barrel flipped upward and forward for loading and extraction.
