The Taurus M45SA, colloquially and commercially known as the Taurus Gaucho, is a single-action revolver designed to pay homage to the iconic Colt Single Action Army (SAA) of the Old West. Introduced in the mid-2000s, the M45SA is built on a robust medium steel frame and is most commonly chambered in the traditional .45 Colt cartridge, though models were also produced in .357 Magnum. It was offered in both polished blue/color-case hardened or matte stainless finishes, typically pairing a 5.5-inch barrel with traditional fixed blade and groove sights. What sets the M45SA apart from standard historical clones is its incorporation of a modern transfer-bar safety mechanism, which prevents the firing pin from striking a cartridge unless the trigger is pulled completely to the rear. This allows shooters to safely carry a full cylinder of six rounds, a significant departure from the classic "load five and keep the hammer over an empty chamber" rule of traditional 19th-century designs.
