The Traditions Mountain Rifle is a faithful nod to the Jacob and Samuel Hawken–inspired “plains rifle” designs that once rode the horseback scabbards of fur trappers and early American explorers in search of beaver and other valuable pelts. Built as a .50 caliber muzzleloading, percussion, single-shot rifle, it captures the long-range capability and rugged simplicity that made the original mountain rifles so respected in the field. A defining feature is its extended 32" octagonal barrel with a 1:48" twist, giving it excellent balance for distance shooting while maintaining traditional handling. The rifle measures an overall length of 48" and weighs 8.15 lbs., offering a steady, deliberate feel that suits its historic purpose. Traditions enhances the classic look with a modern Brown Cerakote finish on the barrel, echoing the original rust-brown aesthetic while delivering improved corrosion resistance for real-world durability. The Mountain Rifle carries the familiar character of traditional sidelock firearms, featuring a color case-hardened style lock and select hardwood stock, giving it an unmistakable frontier appearance. A blade front sight pairs with an adjustable rear for straightforward, reliable aiming in the field.
