The Tula Arsenal SKS-45 is a Soviet gas-operated, semi-automatic carbine chambered in 7.62×39mm, designed by Sergei Simonov and produced at the Tula Arsenal from 1949 to 1958. Featuring a 20.25-inch chrome-lined barrel on later production rifles, a 10-round fixed magazine loaded with stripper clips, a folding blade bayonet, and a rugged short-stroke gas piston system, the SKS-45 was engineered to provide Soviet infantry with a reliable self-loading rifle before being superseded by the AK-47. Renowned for its durability, smooth operation, and surprising accuracy, the Tula-produced SKS remains one of the finest examples of Cold War military firearms engineering.
