The Astra Model 900 “Broomhandle” is a Spanish-made semi-automatic pistol patterned after the famous Mauser C96, produced by Astra-Unceta y Cia. during the late 1920s and 1930s. Chambered primarily in 7.63mm Mauser, the Model 900 retained the distinctive fixed magazine, long barrel, boxy receiver, tangent-style rear sight, and broomhandle-style grip profile that made the C96 one of the most recognizable military pistols of the early 20th century. While not a Mauser-manufactured pistol, the Astra 900 developed its own collector following due to its quality Spanish production, close visual similarity to the C96, and use in both military and commercial markets, including exports to China and other regions where Broomhandle-pattern pistols were highly valued. Today, the Astra 900 is desirable as a well-made and historically interesting C96-pattern pistol, offering strong appeal to collectors of early semi-automatic handguns, Spanish arms, and interwar military-style pistols.
