Manufactured by O.F. Mossberg & Sons for Montgomery Ward under the house brand name "Westernfield," the Model M550ABD is mechanically identical to the legendary Mossberg 500AB pump-action shotgun. Celebrated for its twin action bars, anodized aluminum alloy receiver, smooth pump cycle, and intuitively located top-tang ambidextrous safety, the Mossberg 500 platform became one of the most successful utility shotguns in history. The factory C-LECT-CHOKE system was ahead of its time, allowing shooters to quickly twist the external choke sleeve to dial in Full, Modified, or Cylinder constriction on the fly without changing choke tubes.
This exact shotgun, serial number H177889, was produced in the 1970s.
