Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
Crafted at the famed Olin-Kodensha facility in Tochigi, Japan between 1963 and 1987, the Winchester Model 101 is universally acclaimed as one of the finest production over/under shotguns ever offered. While 12-gauge and 20-gauge examples are well known among sporting clays shooters, factory .410 bore Model 101s built on a scaled small-bore frame are among the rarest and most coveted sub-gauge shotguns in the entire world. Featuring delicate hand-cut scroll engraving across the blued receiver frame, deep high-gloss bluing, select checkered walnut, and precise Japanese hand-fitting, the .410 bore Model 101 Field Gun is the absolute pinnacle of small-bore upland perfection.
This specific example is an authentic Winchester Model 101 Field Gun .410 bore over/under shotgun, bearing matching serial number K230055. Offered in spectacular, high-grade collector condition throughout, it features 28-inch ventilated rib barrels chambered for 2 3/4-inch and 3-inch .410 shells, fixed Modified (top) and Full (bottom) chokes, a hand-scroll engraved blued receiver, single selective trigger, selective ejectors, and a rich, high-gloss walnut stock and forend. The factory high-gloss bluing and scroll-engraved receiver present in near-mint condition throughout, showing vibrant depth, razor-sharp factory markings, and virtually no wear beyond faint, light handling character on the gloss forend finish. Mechanically, the action breaks open crisp and tight, lockup is vault-solid with the top lever sitting far right of center, triggers trip crisp, ejectors throw clean, and both 28-inch barrel bores are mirror-bright. Complete in its original factory red/black plaid Winchester box with matching end-label, this 28-inch .410 bore Model 101 represents a Holy Grail centerpiece for the serious Winchester collector or small-bore enthusiast.
