Bryant Ridge Co. is pleased to present this semi-automatic rifle today for a penny-start auction, this is the Zastava Arms / Tehnicki Remont Bratunac (TRB) M59 “G10."
Tehnicki Remont Bratunac (TRB), located in eastern Bosnia and Herzegovina, is a historic military repair depot that originally operated within the state-owned Yugoslavian defense network, similar to the TRZ facility in Kragujevac, Serbia. Now structured as a private enterprise, TRB executed comprehensive arsenal overhauls on SKS rifles imported into the U.S. by PW Arms. The factory used virtually all-new components, applying a uniform deep re-bluing and low-digit commercial serial numbers, while obscuring their original production years. Marked on the left side of the receiver, the prefix "BA" represents the country code for Bosnia and Herzegovina, while "TRB" identifies the facility. The letter "G" stands for Godina (the Bosnian word for "Year"), which marks the specific commercial contract and production lot assigned by the facility. Under this tracking system, the G10 Variant (denoting the 2010 production lot) is explicitly stamped "M59" and features a modified bare muzzle profile. Conversely, the G16 Variant (denoting the 2016 production lot) is explicitly stamped "M59/66", retaining the full-length military footprint, while utilizing a distinct muzzle flash hider in place of the traditional grenade spigot.

The Zastava M59, often referred to as papovka, is the original Yugoslav-produced version of the Soviet SKS-45. The nickname “papovka” comes from PAP, an abbreviation for poluautomatska puška, Serbian for “semi-automatic rifle.” During the 1950s, Yugoslavia’s defense industry sought to develop a self-loading rifle to supplement and eventually replace the bolt-action Zastava M48, which was then standard issue in the Yugoslav People’s Army. By 1959, Yugoslavia had adopted the SKS design for domestic manufacture. Limited production began in 1961 at Preduzece 44 (Enterprise Facility 44) in Kragujevac, where a small pilot batch of rifles was produced. After this initial test production run, no additional SKS rifles were produced for a few years while the factory finalized tooling and prepared for mass production. The rifle entered serialized mass production in 1964, when the model was formally designated the Zastava M59. The Yugoslav SKS rifles closely followed late Soviet SKS patterns, although they lacked the chrome-lined barrels found on Soviet carbines. The M59 was produced in serialized mass production from 1964 to 1967, with approximately 52,000 rifles manufactured before the design was modified and replaced by the later Zastava M59/66. Because it lacks the grenade launcher, ladder sight, and gas shutoff system introduced on the M59/66, collectors often note that the M59 remains the Yugoslav SKS variant most visually and mechanically similar to the original Soviet configuration.
