Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Colt Officers Model Match is widely regarded as one of the finest target revolvers ever produced by Colt, representing the culmination of decades of refinement in the company's prestigious Officers Model line. Introduced in 1953 as the successor to the Officers Model Special, the Officers Model Match was designed specifically for competitive bullseye and precision revolver shooting during a period when formal target competition was immensely popular in the United States. Built on Colt's renowned E-frame, the same frame used for the famous Python, the Officers Model Match featured a hand-fitted action known for its exceptionally smooth double-action pull and crisp single-action break. Chambered primarily in .38 Special, with some examples also produced in .22 Long Rifle, the revolver was equipped with a heavy barrel measuring either 4 or 6 inches, providing excellent balance and reducing muzzle movement during slow-fire target stages. Its fully adjustable rear sight and precision Patridge-style front sight allowed shooters to fine-tune their point of impact, while the deeply blued finish and finely checkered walnut target stocks reflected the high level of craftsmanship associated with Colt revolvers of the era. Unlike service revolvers intended for duty carry, the Officers Model Match was purpose-built for accuracy, and many examples were capable of producing remarkable groups in the hands of skilled marksmen. The revolver became a common sight on competition firing lines throughout the 1950s and 1960s, earning a loyal following among law enforcement officers, civilian competitors, and shooting enthusiasts alike. Production continued until 1969, when changing market demands and the decline of traditional revolver target competition contributed to its discontinuation. Today, the Colt Officers Model Match is highly sought after by collectors and shooters who appreciate classic American firearms, with values often influenced by factors such as original finish condition, barrel length, caliber, presence of the original box and paperwork, and whether the revolver retains its factory grips. Revered for its elegant appearance, outstanding mechanical quality, and exceptional accuracy potential, the Colt Officers Model Match remains a shining example of the craftsmanship that defined Colt's golden age of revolver production and stands as one of the most respected target handguns ever manufactured in the United States.
