Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Smith & Wesson Model 669, also known as the 2nd generation 9mm compact, is a semi-automatic pistol chambered in 9mm. Introduced in late 1985, it was designed as a smaller version of the Model 659 and served as the stainless steel counterpart to the blued Model 469. It features a traditional double-action/single-action system, a 3 1/2-inch barrel, and a lightweight aluminum alloy frame. Unloaded, the total weight is 26 ounces. The pistol shipped with either 12-shot finger-rest magazines or 20-round extension magazines. Standard features included an ambidextrous safety, a .260-inch bobbed hammer, and a .365-inch smooth trigger. For aiming, it used a 1/8-inch serrated ramp front sight with a red bar, paired with a rear sight drift-adjustable for windage only. Frame ergonomics included a serrated forestrap, a stippled backstrap, and black pebble-grain molded Delrin grips with S&W monograms. The S&W trademark is stamped on the right of the frame, and "9mm Parabellum" is marked on the extractor port. Production began with Serial Number TAE 0001, though the first 100 guns featured a TAK serial prefix and were set aside for Lew Horton Distribution, including 25 rare Class "A" engraved units. Smith & Wesson produced the Model 669 from circa 1985 to 1988 with a total production of 54,074 pistols. The model was eventually discontinued and replaced by the 3rd Generation Model 6906.
