The Colt MK IV Series 80 Government Model is a full-size semi-automatic pistol chambered in .45 ACP, representing one of the most important evolutions of Colt’s legendary 1911 platform. Introduced in 1983, the Series 80 replaced the earlier Series 70 and incorporated Colt’s new passive firing pin safety system, designed to prevent the pistol from firing unless the trigger was intentionally pressed. Featuring the classic 5-inch barrel, single-action trigger, thumb safety, grip safety, and 7-round single-stack magazine, the Government Model retained the proven design principles of the original M1911 while adding modern safety improvements. Built with a steel frame and slide, the MK IV Series 80 is known for its reliability, excellent balance, crisp trigger characteristics, and traditional Colt craftsmanship.
