The CZ Vzor 50, commonly designated as the CZ Vz. 50, is a compact Cold War-era semi-automatic pistol developed in Czechoslovakia for use by police, military support personnel, and state security agencies. Manufactured by Ceská zbrojovka (CZ) beginning in 1950, the pistol is chambered in 7.65mm Browning (.32 ACP) and was heavily influenced by the proven German Walther PP design. Built entirely of steel and utilizing a simple blowback operating system, the Vzor 50 features a traditional double-action/single-action trigger mechanism along with a slide-mounted safety and decocker, allowing safe carry with a chambered round. Its fixed barrel design contributes to excellent inherent accuracy, while the eight-round detachable magazine provides practical capacity for a sidearm of its size. The pistol's robust construction and simple internal design earned it a reputation for reliability and long service life, characteristics that made it well suited for the demands of postwar police and security service. Most examples are finished in a military-style blue and fitted with checkered black plastic grip panels bearing the CZ logo, giving the pistol its distinctive Eastern Bloc appearance. The Vzor 50 eventually evolved into the improved Vz. 70, but both models retained the same basic operating principles and external profile. Surplus imports introduced large numbers of these pistols to American collectors, where they became appreciated for their affordability, historical significance, and surprisingly good accuracy.
