Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Kimber of Oregon Model 82 is one of the most respected rimfire bolt-action rifles ever produced in the United States, representing the foundation of Kimber’s early reputation for precision and craftsmanship. Manufactured in Clackamas, Oregon during the company’s original production era, the Model 82 was built with a strong emphasis on accuracy, featuring a finely machined action, high-quality barrel, and excellent fit and finish. These rifles quickly gained recognition among target shooters and hunters alike for their exceptional performance and reliability. From a performance standpoint, the Model 82 is known for its outstanding accuracy, often rivaling dedicated target rifles of its time. Many variants were produced, including sporter configurations for field use and heavier-barreled target or varmint models designed for bench shooting. The crisp trigger and smooth bolt operation contribute to a highly refined shooting experience, while the classic walnut stocks provide both aesthetic appeal and solid ergonomics. Kimber’s attention to detail during this early period is evident throughout the rifle’s construction. From a collector’s perspective, the Kimber of Oregon Model 82 holds significant historical importance. Early Clackamas-produced examples are particularly sought after due to their limited production and superior craftsmanship compared to later mass-market offerings. High-end variants, such as the Super America models, command even greater interest among collectors. Today, the Model 82 remains a cornerstone of Kimber collecting, valued not only for its performance but also as a representation of the company’s origins and commitment to quality.
