Bryant Ridge Co. is pleased to present this semi-automatic pistol today for a penny-start auction; this is the Kimber 84 SSV Prototype with Serial Number #SSV1642!
This Kimber Factory Letter documents an 84 Prototype rifle, identified by the serial number SSV1642. This specific firearm is chambered in .17 Remington and is configured with a 24-inch barrel, a blued/stainless finish, and walnut stocks. According to the remarks, this example was produced as a prototype during the initial development and pre-production phase of its model line. It represents one of the earliest manufactured firearms utilized in final evaluation prior to full-scale release. The document, signed by Edelman, states that the rifle was released from the Kimber Vault on February 6, 2026, and delivered to Bryant Ridge Co. in Liberty, Kentucky.

Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Kimber of Oregon Model 84SSV Prototype represents an exceptionally rare and historically significant example from the earliest era of Kimber rifle production. Manufactured during the original Clackamas, Oregon period—when Kimber of Oregon established its reputation for precision bolt-action rifles—this prototype configuration reflects the company’s early focus on lightweight actions paired with high-quality barrels and meticulous machining. The “SSV” designation suggests a stainless, varmint-oriented configuration, likely featuring a heavier contour barrel intended for enhanced accuracy and stability. What sets this example apart is its prototype status combined with its Kimber of Oregon origin, placing it well outside standard production and into a category of developmental or pre-production rifles. During this early period, Kimber produced rifles in relatively small numbers, and prototype variants were typically built for evaluation, testing, or concept development. These rifles were seldom documented in detail and rarely released to the public, making surviving examples extraordinarily difficult to identify and compare against known production models. From a collector’s standpoint, this rifle occupies an elite tier within Kimber collecting. Early Kimber of Oregon firearms are already highly desirable due to their craftsmanship and limited production, but a prototype example adds another level of rarity and historical importance. With virtually no publicly available production data and few, if any, comparable examples observed, the Model 84SSV Prototype stands as a scarce and compelling piece—offering not only exceptional shooting potential but also a direct connection to Kimber’s formative years and development process.
