The Smith & Wesson Model 18-3 is a classic K-frame .22 LR revolver that carries the same general size, balance, and handling characteristics as Smith & Wesson’s centerfire service revolvers, but in an economical and low-recoil rimfire chambering. Often referred to as the Combat Masterpiece in .22 caliber, the Model 18 was designed as a companion-style revolver to models such as the Model 15, giving shooters a familiar training and target platform with the lighter report and lower cost of .22 Long Rifle ammunition. The 18-3 variation belongs to the desirable pinned-barrel, pre-lock era of Smith & Wesson production, and examples from this period are appreciated for their traditional craftsmanship, blued finish, adjustable sights, smooth double-action/single-action operation, and excellent practical accuracy. Its K-frame size gives it a substantial and well-balanced feel compared to smaller rimfire revolvers, making it especially enjoyable for range shooting, small-game use, and serious revolver training. Overall, the Smith & Wesson 18-3 .22 LR represents one of the company’s finest classic rimfire revolvers, combining vintage S&W quality, practical shootability, and strong collector appeal.
