Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
Introduced in 1987, the Smith & Wesson Model 422 was engineered as an innovative, lightweight sport and target pistol designed for plinking, target shooting, and small-game hunting. Utilizing a clever low-bore axis architecture, the barrel is positioned below the recoil spring assembly near the bottom of the slide, bringing the line of impulse directly in line with the shooter’s wrist to minimize felt recoil and muzzle rise. Built on a matte black anodized aluminum alloy frame with a carbon steel slide, the Model 422 features a fixed 6-inch target barrel, fully adjustable target rear sight, gold bead front sight post, crisp single-action trigger, internal hammer, and checkered target hardwood grips with S&W gold medallions. Produced until 1996, clean 4.5-inch Model 422 target pistols remain highly regarded by S&W collectors and rimfire target shooters for their accuracy and natural pointability.
This fine, highly preserved collector example, serial number TVB7730, is an authentic Smith & Wesson Model 422 manufactured in Springfield, Massachusetts. Chambered in .22 LR, this pistol features a 4.5-inch target barrel, non-glare matte black finish, micrometer-adjustable target rear sight, gold bead ramp front sight, and original checkered hardwood target grips with gold S&W medallions. Preserved in clean, highly maintained condition throughout, with uniform matte black finish coverage, crisp factory rollmarks, smooth slide operation, and a mirror-bright bore with sharp rifling. Complete w/ (1) original factory 10-round S&W magazine, this Model 422 represents a fantastic target-grade S&W rimfire handgun.
