Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
Introduced in 1970 as the stainless steel counterpart to the legendary Model 19 Combat Magnum, the Smith & Wesson Model 66 quickly became an iconic sidearm for law enforcement agencies and civilian shooters across America. Built on S&W's famous medium K-frame platform, the Model 66 combined the stopping power of the .357 Magnum cartridge with ideal balance and corrosion-resistant all-stainless steel construction. The 66-2 engineering dash revision, introduced in 1982, marked an important transitional era for S&W: while it eliminated the pinned barrel and recessed cylinder features to streamline production, it retained the highly desirable pre-internal lock frame geometry, hammer-mounted firing pin architecture, and traditional forged internal components. This specific example bears serial number AJW3964, dating its production to approximately 1986. Featuring the classic 4-inch barrel length, red ramp front sight, white-outline micrometer adjustable rear sight, and checkered wood target stocks adorned with gold S&W medallions, this revolver offers the quintessential Combat Magnum profile. The satin stainless steel finish remains exceptionally bright and clean throughout, exhibiting minimal handling marks. Mechanically, the cylinder locks up with precise lockup, the double-action and single-action trigger operation is exceptionally smooth, and the 4-inch bore displays bright, sharp rifling. This mid-1980s Smith & Wesson Model 66-2 represents a classic, highly collectible K-frame piece for Smith & Wesson wheelgun enthusiasts.
