Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Smith & Wesson Pre-Model 10 is the collector designation for the post-World War II .38 Military & Police revolvers produced before 1957, when Smith & Wesson officially switched to numeric model names and the M&P became the Model 10. Mechanically, these revolvers are part of the K-frame, double-action/single-action, six-shot system chambered in .38 Special, using a hand-ejector cylinder system and a swing-out cylinder design that had already been refined through decades of prior Military & Police production. Internally, they use the improved short-action lockwork introduced after WWII, along with a more modernized hammer block safety system compared to early 1900s variants. Most Pre-Model 10 examples feature 4-inch barrels as standard, though 2-inch, 3-inch, 5-inch, and 6-inch versions exist depending on police contracts and civilian catalog options. Frames are typically either square-butt or round-butt K-frames, with fixed sights (half-moon front sight on earlier postwar guns, later ramped front sights as updates occurred). Finishes include blued steel or nickel, with production generally continuing the heavy-duty “service revolver” concept that made the M&P the standard police sidearm for much of the 20th century.
Return Policy:
We gladly offer a 3-day unfired inspection policy from the time that the firearm is delivered to your FFL. Refunds are available for all qualifying orders.
