The Waffenfabrik Mauser Oberndorf A/N C96, commonly known simply as the Mauser C96 or “Broomhandle Mauser,” is one of the most iconic and recognizable semi-automatic pistols ever produced, renowned for its revolutionary design, distinctive appearance, and major influence on early handgun development. Manufactured by Mauser at the Oberndorf am Neckar factory in Germany beginning in 1896, the C96 was among the first commercially successful self-loading pistols and represented a major technological leap beyond the revolvers that dominated the late 19th century. Designed by the Feederle brothers working for Mauser, the pistol utilized a short-recoil locking system and was most commonly chambered in the high-velocity 7.63×25mm Mauser cartridge, though numerous other chamberings and variations were later produced, including 9mm Parabellum.
