Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
Tracing its lineage directly back to the celebrated .38 Hand Ejector Model of 1899, the Smith & Wesson .38 Military & Police represents the most widely produced service revolver in history. Built on the iconic K-frame platform, the M&P set the gold standard for American law enforcement and military sidearms throughout the 20th century. This specific example represents a highly desirable "Pre-Model 10" manufactured in approximately 1957, right before Smith & Wesson officially assigned numerical model designations (which became the Model 10 in late 1957). Produced during the golden era of post-WWII craftsmanship, it retains desirable classic features including a pinned barrel, 5-screw/4-screw frame construction, case-hardened hammer and trigger, and a sleek 4-inch tapered "pencil" barrel profile. Finished in rich factory carbon steel bluing, it is outfitted with upgraded checkered wood target stocks with gold S&W medallions. The revolver exhibits matching serial numbers across the frame butt and cylinder extractor star ("482429"). The original factory blued finish retains deep gloss with honest high-edge wear and light handling marks earned over its nearly 70-year history. Mechanically, the cylinder locks up with trademark S&W precision, trigger pull in single action breaks crisp, and the 4-inch bore remains bright with clean, sharp rifling. This 1950s Pre-Model 10 Military & Police offers a fantastic, historic centerpiece for vintage Smith & Wesson collectors.
