Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
Manufactured in Kragujevac, Yugoslavia by Zavodi Crvena Zastava (Zastava Arms), the Model 70A (M70A) represents a direct 9mm Parabellum factory evolution of the iconic military M57 and Soviet Tokarev TT-33 service sidearm architecture. Utilizing the proven short-recoil Browning tilting-barrel locking system, the M70A retains the rugged full-sized frame geometry, removable hammer/sear lockwork module, and reliable single-action trigger operation of its military predecessors. Designed to meet Western commercial and export standards, the M70A adapts the Tokarev platform for standard 9x19mm ammunition while adding a factory slide-mounted thumb safety that blocks the firing pin, delivering military-grade steel construction with accessible caliber versatility.
This specific example is an authentic Yugoslavian Zastava M70A semi-automatic pistol chambered in 9mm Parabellum, bearing matching serial number 22127 across the frame, slide, and barrel shank. Imported by Foxtrot of Elbridge, New York, it features a 4.5-inch barrel, factory dark blued finish, grooved black composite grip panels with central Zastava emblems, slide-mounted manual safety, frame lanyard loop, and a single-stack steel magazine. The factory blued metal surfaces exhibit smooth military-grade finish with light natural handling marks and crisp arsenal roll-marks. Mechanically, the slide operates smoothly, barrel lockup is bank-vault tight, the single-action hammer cocks cleanly, and the 4.5-inch barrel bore is bright with strong rifling. Complete with one (1) factory single-stack steel magazine, this Zastava M70A offers a hardy Tokarev variant for collectors and surplus shooters alike.
